Proudly Offering Orthodontics Near West Palm Beach, FL  From Start to Finish

As your trusted Boynton Beach orthodontist, we are glad to offer a wide variety of high-quality orthodontic treatments, from braces to Invisalign® aligners, in order to give you a straighter and healthier smile. After your treatment is over and the braces finally come off, there is still one step left in the orthodontic process – the retention phase.

The Retention Phase

While the purpose of braces is to shift your teeth into a much more favorable position, the retention stage is used to maintain the alignment of your new smile. While the retainer may make small movements to your teeth, the main goal of retention is to help your jawbone, cheeks and lips adapt to the new alignment of your teeth and keep them in place. This will keep your teeth from falling back into misalignment.

Continued usage of your retainer is critical to the success of the entire orthodontic process. You should always wear your retainer for the first year after your braces come off. This ensures that the hard work you have put in during the treatment will not go to waste. After the first year, we recommend wearing a retainer at least every other night for an indefinite period.
